By that logic, lovelorn singletons should apply the same principles to their dating profiles as advertisers apply to a bottle of shampoo competing for attention on a supermarket shelf, according to a study published in 2015 by Sameer Chaudhry, assistant professor at University Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and his colleague Khalid Khan, professor of women’s health and clinical epidemiology at Queen Mary University of London.
Chaudhry had good reason to choose this as a research topic. By employing the study’s findings in his own search for a partner, Chaudhry says he finally found the right match.
This trend is partly driven by a rise in the number of single people within the population.
The last Office for National Statistics census in 2011 revealed that over 15.7 million adults in England and Wales had never been married, up from 12.5 million in 2001.
The report by market research group Mintel forecasts that the market will continue its strong growth to reach £225m by 2019, but warns that concerns over safety and online abuse must be addressed.

One of the world’s oldest professions is matchmaking, and given the role of technology in today’s world, it’s no surprise that the industry is booming.
With an explosion of new websites and apps, the dating services industry has performed very well in the past five years and is continuing to grow as today's singles turn to the Internet for help finding love.
